ON THIS DATE IN 1949 A BABY BOY, WHO’S NAME I CAN’T PRONOUNCE, WAS BORN IN BUDAPEST HUNGARY…HIS JEWISH PARENTS WERE PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHERS AND HOLOCAUST SURVIVORS. THEY EMIGRATED TO THE US IN 1957 TO ESCAPE THE HUNGARIAN REVOLUTION, SETTLING IN THE NEW YORK NEIGHBORHOOD OF SOUTH BRONX. IN 1974 HE WAS MANAGER OF THE PIONEERING PUNK ROCKERS THE RAMONES, BUT WHEN THE LANKY DRUMMER AND VOCALIST JOEY RAMONE BECAME STRICTLY LEAD SINGER, THE HUNGARIAN AMERICAN THAT TOOK ON THE NAME TOMMY RAMONE WAS DRAFTED TO BE THE BAND’S DRUMMER FROM THEIR DEBUT TIL 1978, EVEN THOUGH HE HAD NEVER PLAYED DRUMS BEFORE!… HE LATER SERVED AS THE RAMONES’ PRODUCER AND WAS THE LONGEST SURVIVING MEMBER…HE WAS ALSO THE MAJORITY CREATOR OF THE SONG THAT ALWAYS GETS ME ROCKING “BLITZKRIEG BOP”…SADLY, TOMMY RAMONE PASSED AWAY IN 2014 FROM BILE DUCT CANCER AT THE AGE OF 65 BUT HIS LEGACY WILL LIVE ON FOREVER…HEY HO, LET’S GO! “BLITZKRIEG BOP” THE PUNK ANTHEM THAT HAS INFLUENCED SO MANY ROCKERS…IT’S TODAY’S ROXY’S ROCK REWIND ON 105.7 THE X…THROW THOSE FISTS IN THE AIR AND ROCK OUT!
