IN MID 1978, THE CLASH WERE WORKING ON THEIR 2ND ALBUM WHEN VOCALIST JOE STRUMMER AND GUITARIST MICK JONES WENT TO SAN FRANCISCO TO RECORD SOME OVERDUBS AT THE AUTOMATT STUDIO WHERE THE OWNER KEPT HIS COLLECTION OF CLASSIC JUKEBOXES ALL OVER THE BUILDING…THAT IS WHERE THEY HEARD THE BOBBY FULLER SONG, “I FOUGHT THE LAW” FOR THE FIRST TIME AND THAT IS WHEN THEY DECIDED IT WAS THE PERFECT SINGLE TO COVER AND DEBUT IN THE U.S…AND ON THIS DATE IN 1979 THE CLASH’S VERSION OF ‘I FOUGHT THE LAW’ WAS RELEASED HERE IN THE US AND IT GARNERED THEM A TON OF AIRPLAY…AND A FUN SIDENOTE…SOME OF THE PERCUSSION ON THE ALBUM WAS MADE BY HITTING PIPES ON A URINAL…GOTTA LOVE THE PUNKS!…I CAN’T REMEMBER NOT LOVING THE CLASH…THE ONLY BAND THAT MATTERED!!!.. “I FOUGHT THE LAW” FROM THE CLASH IT’S TODAY’S ROXY’S ROCK REWIND ON 1057 THE X IN THE FIVE OCLOCK FREAK OUT ON A FINALLY FRIDAY!
