Sad news in the last 24 hours, Peoria music fans. Gordon Lightfoot, the legendary singer, songwriter, who proudly hailed from Canada, has passed away at the age of 84. Lightfoot spanned a massively successful multi-decade career that started in the 1950’s, culminating with timeless, legendary songs in the 1960’s and 1970’s-“If You Could Read My Mind”, “Sundown”, Carefree Highway”, and the haunting “The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald”, to name just a few. His beautiful voice, combined with his melodic and unique guitar stylings exploded onto the Folk music scene in the early 1960’s in Toronto. Lightfoot is widely regarded as one of the greatest and most influential musicians to ever come out of Canada. Lightfoot’s music and songs were covered over the years by artists such as Elvis and Barbra Streisand. This past September, he played the Peoria Civic Center Theater to a thrilled audience. Sad day, indeed, RIP, Gordon, you will be missed. Thank you for the timeless music.
