Since it is Autism Awareness Month, and I have opened up my world to you about it, I am going to keep the train rolling all month with stats, facts, and big things that are happening in the world around us to better the lives of people with developmental disabilities.
Did you know (According to Autism Speaks)…
Autism now affects 1 in 68 children and 1 in 42 boys
Autism prevalence figures are growing
Autism is one of the fastest-growing developmental disorders in the U.S.
Autism costs a family $60,000 a year on average
Boys are nearly five times more likely than girls to have autism
There is no medical detection or cure for autism
So, what can you do to help? Get involved with groups in central Illinois who are raising money to research autism and better the lives of people with developmental disabilities. So…. what’s coming up?

Those are just a few ways you can get involved this month to show you care. To show that you DEMAND inclusion for people with developmental disabilities.
If that isn’t enough to get you motivated, even major sports teams are re-imagining their venues for people with sensory issues!
I never thought I would say this, but I am proud of the Cleveland Cavaliers. On behalf of parents everywhere who may not feel like they have a voice… “Thank you for this! It truly means the world to families who can now enjoy seeing their favorite team and not be overwhelmed to the point they don’t enjoy their time.”
