Billie Joe Armstrong and his band mates, Tre’ Cool, and Mike Dirnt, decided long ago that they would be a band that spoke their minds. They dramatically turned a corner over ten years ago, lyrics about teenage rebellion, poop, and juvenile delinquency were replaced with lyrics about war, anti-war stances, politics, you name it. They believe in activism, and making a point with their message. Just think ‘American Idiot’; and ’21st Century Breakdown.’ The new album, ‘Revolution Radio’, is a solid collection of Punk Rock, Pop, and sing along songs that define their sound. The album also showcases songs that also challenge you, with a message.
The band just released a new video for the song “Troubled Times”, and the video shows images of the current state of affairs, with a pointed message from Billie Joe and the band. The song is also instantly catchy, and delivers that signature Green Day sound that we all know well. The video has images from Virginia from this past weekend. It seems as if the band wanted to release this song and video for a reason this week. Check it out. Green Day, by the way, is set to Rock at Wrigley Field next Thursday. Punk Rock, indeed!
